Founding
est. 2016
Brookings HOSA was founded in 2016 by students interested in the medical field who felt Brookings High School lacked any sort of organization to better prepare them for the health field. Kyle Sorbe, then a Junior, emailed Mrs. Welsh regarding whether or not she would become the adviser of BHS HOSA. He believed it may take a while to get started, and proposed they don't officially start the chapter until August of 2017. Mrs. Welsh was eager to begin, and worked vigorously with co-advisor Mrs. Tucker to begin this chapter.
The first year began with officer elections. The founding officers of the chapter were
President: Kyle Sorbe
President Elect: Kashfia Rahman
Vice-President: Hossam Halaweish
Secretary: Kia Witt
Membership Coordinator: Angela Lansang
Fundraising Coordinator: Heather Selleck
Fundraising Coordinator: Carissa Metzger
After a succesful year full of events, the time came for the first State Leadership Conference for BHS HOSA. Several members competeed for a spot to go to International HOSA in Orlando, FL. The following were the first ever qualifiers for our chapter.
